Training: Topics (and more are planned)
Bonding and Educating the "startle reflex" (Why Bonding and the Startle Reflex are Vital) provide safety and security to overcome anxiety and fear, so that they can learn most easily.
And the "Why of the Basics?"
New Puppy - the home needs to be made safe and friendly with hazards moved above where a puppy can reachs tanding on back legs, check yards, lawns against poisonous plants, provide crate, ...
Soft-mouth-No bite- Teaching bite inhibition - also called "soft-bite." That also teaches cooperation and a sense of justice and fair-play. 'Soft-mouth' is learned. IT is NOT an instinct. Usually puppies learn it from brothers and sisters, or mother. So a singleton puppy with no siblings can only learn from an adult person or dog. Failure to learn as a puppy can cause the juvenile or adult to be a social problem later when it grows up and learns from paiful experiences.
No Eat Bad Things - Puppies and juveniles taste almost anthing and can be injured or die if they eat metal bits, anti-freeze, throw-away pieces of plastic and paper from fast foods junk and rubber pieces from foam, toys. Train and educate to protect deaf and blind dogs from eating harmful things
Non-Agression - - Among well socialized normal domestic dogs blood-shed by aggression is extremely rare because the dogs have usually learned (been taught by other dogs or human) their three rules of proper meeting and linguistc consensus. This is explained in more detail in the page following and several new books.
Opinions on Training Styles- for Education, Teaching and "Conditioning." Training modern domestic dogs works best with a decent respect for the dog's intelligence, physical and mental abilities. These are unique to each dog, its breed, its experience (puppy, rescue, ...), the people it will live with and last of all, whether it is deaf or blind. Raw Pavlovian or Skinnerian training, brute force dominance/submission and related quasi-military-recruit training variants that were fashionable after WWII have been largely replaced with clicker training and other decent forms of training.
Dog Language Samples - Dogs of all ages convey their needs, thoughts, attidudes and intentions by voice (growls, whines, ..) tails, ears, "smiles" and grins, ans so forth. Learning their language (while they learn yours) can make life more fun for everyone.
Teething By Juveniles - Many people have forgotten that puppies (like children) lose their baby teeth and grow new teeth for life. Cutting the new teeth can be painful and they usuall chew on things. For safety of the juvenile and the furniture, teething juveniles should be provided safe "toys" that they can use to work out their new teeth.
Others Topics [?] - - added when somebody asks.
